In 2001, State Farm Insurance declared Pines Boulevard and Flamingo Road, located in Pembroke Pines, the most dangerous intersection in the United States based on its accident claims. WFOR-TV reported that there were 357 accidents during a two-year period. The intersection has since been redesigned, with additional lanes added.
Miramar may be Spanish for "look at the sea", but the city isn't located on the ocean. It was named for the Miramar area of Havana, Cuba where city founder A.L. Mailman had a summer home.
