Sacramento City College was founded in 1916, initially meeting in the upper rooms of Sacramento High School until a bond issue allowed them to construct a new facility in 1924. The campus was moved to its present location on Freeport Boulevard two years later.
The Crocker Art Museum, founded in 1885, is the oldest public art museum west of the Mississippi River. The museum contains American works dating from the Gold Rush to the present, European paintings and master drawings, one of the largest international ceramics collections in the U.S., and collections of Asian, African, and Oceanic art.
