The Lost World, released in 1925, was the first full-length dinosaur movie--and it starred not Tyrannosaurus Rex but Allosaurus (with guest appearances by T. rex, Pteranodon, and Brontosaurus). Less than a decade later, however, Allosaurus was relegated to second-string Hollywood status by T. Rex's convincing cameo in the 1933 blockbuster King Kong.
It was designated as the state fossil of Utah in 1988. Quarries in Utah, such as at Dinosaur National Monument near Vernal and the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry near Price, have produced numerous exquisite specimens of Allosaurus and greatly expanded our knowledge of this Late Jurassic predator.
