Crawling in my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing, confusing what is real
There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
Consuming (confusing what is real)
In 2004, the band began working with Jay-Z to produce a few mashup tracks. Although they originally planned on mashing up only one or two songs, the project was eventually expanded to a six-song album titled Collision Course and spawned a single, "Numb/Encore" which eventually won Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 2006 Grammy Awards.
On July 20, 2017, Bennington was found dead by his housekeeper at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging. Bandmate Mike Shinoda confirmed his death on Twitter, writing, "Shocked and heartbroken, but it's true." During an Instagram live chat later that year, Shinoda was asked whether Linkin Park would consider performing with a hologram version of Bennington. He replied, "Can we not do a holographic Chester? I can't even wrap my head around the idea of a holographic Chester. I've actually heard other people outside the band suggest that, and there's absolutely no way."

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in gray
