Swift composed "Our Song" for a high school talent show, about a boyfriend who she did not have a song with.
"Blank Space" is an electropop song with lyrics that satirize the media's perception of Swift and her relationships.
In light of her previous song, "Dear John", the media originally speculated the song to be about Taylor's ex-boyfriend, singer John Mayer. But Taylor would later reveal it was actually about singer/songwriter Harry Styles.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music.
At an industry showcase at Nashville's Bluebird Cafe in 2005, Swift caught the attention of Scott Borchetta, a DreamWorks Records executive who was preparing to form his own independent record label, Big Machine Records. She became one of the first signings, and her father purchased a three percent stake in the fledgling company at an estimated cost of $120,000.
Taylor was inspired to write "You Belong with Me" after listening to a friend argue with his girlfriend over the phone.
Swift promoted the album by performing on tour as the opening act for artists such as Rascal Flatts, George Strait, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill.
