From ages one through six, Webster lived with his grandmother in South Park, Houston. The neighborhood was notorious for crime, and Scott later explained the impact it had on him: "Growing up, my grandmother stayed in the 'hood so I seen random crazy sh*t. Mad bums and crazy spazzed out motherf***ers, I saw people looking weird, hungry, and grimy. I was always like, 'I gotta get the f*** out this sh*t.' It gave me my edge--who I am right now."

He was born Jacques Bermon Webster II on April 30, 1991.

Travis Scott's stage name is a tribute to his uncle Travis, who he looked up to as a child.

Travis began playing the drums at three-years-old and then moved on to learn the piano.

Scott formed a duo with his longtime friend Chris Holloway known as The Graduates. In 2008, the duo released their untitled first EP on the social networking website Myspace.

In a 2012 interview, Scott explained where the name Owl Pharaoh came from: "All my friends called me an owl because I loved the night and we was always 'bout the night life you know? The Pharaoh just came from me feeling like a king so I called it the Owl Pharaoh or like the King of the Night."

Rodeo was supported by two singles: "3500" and "Antidote". The latter became his highest-charting single in the US Billboard Hot 100 at the time, peaking at number 16.

In March 2017, Scott announced that he would launch his own imprint, under the name Cactus Jack Records. During an interview, he said, "I'm not doing it to have financial control over my music. I want first and foremost to help other artists, launch new names, to provide opportunities. I want to do for them what happened to me, but better."

Scott began dating reality television star and entrepreneur Kylie Jenner in April 2017. On February 1, 2018, Jenner gave birth to their first child, daughter Stormi Webster.

Scott performed five virtual live shows in the video game Fortnite Battle Royale from April 23 to 25, 2020 with visuals based on his Astroworld tour. It received more than 27 million viewers and boosted the sales of Fortnite-branded Cactus Jack products such as action figures.
