On September 2, 2018, Shohei Ohtani pitched 2.1 innings, tying Ruth's record and accomplishing something that hadn't been done in the majors since 1919.

The Houston Astros' rainbow uniform, introduced in 1975, was a radical design for its time. Nothing remotely like it had ever appeared on a baseball diamond. It was also the perfect embodiment of MLB's Technicolor era, as a variety of factors (new fabrics, new tailoring concepts, the rise of color television, the loosening of longstanding cultural dress codes) helped to reshape the idea of what a baseball uniform could be.

After Sammy Sosa's bat was shattered by Devils Rays pitcher and former Cubs teammate Geremi González during the first inning of the Cubs' 3-2 win on June 3, 2003, catcher Toby Hall retrieved a broken piece and showed plate umpire Tim McClelland it was filled with pieces of cork. Sosa was ejected and suspended for 8 games.

On September 28, 1938, one of the most dramatic moments in Chicago Cubs history took place when catcher Gabby Hartnett hit his legendary "Homer in the Gloamin'," a game-winning home run against the Pirates, hit into the darkness of Wrigley Field. Hartnett not only played catcher, but also replaced Charlie Grimm as manager that season, leading the Cubs to the 1938 World Series against the New York Yankees, where the Cubs were swept four games to none. The Homer in the Gloamin' was one of 236 homers that Hartnett hit during his career.

Michael Jordan signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox in 1994 and was assigned to the team's minor league system. That summer he batted .202 with the Birmingham Barons, a class AA affiliate of the White Sox. Later in the year he batted .252 with the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League.

On October 8, 1956, Don Larsen pitched a perfect game in game 5 of the World Series, shutting out the Brooklyn Dodgers. In the locker room after the game, Larsen said "When it was over, I was so happy, I felt like crying. I wanted to win this one for Casey (Stengel). After what I did in Brooklyn, he could have forgotten about me and who would blame him? But he gave me another chance and I'm grateful."

Between August 26, 2002 and July 5, 2004, the Dodgers' Eric Gagne converted a record 84 consecutive saves, including the entire 2003 season without a single blown save. When Gagne came out from the bullpen at Dodger Stadium and the scoreboard flashed "Game Over", it was not hyperbole -- it was fact.

George Foster was one of the most feared right-handed sluggers of his era and a key piece of the Cincinnati Reds' "Big Red Machine" that won consecutive World Series in 1975 and 1976. He famously began using a black bat during his prime because he wanted to "integrate the bat rack" in Cincinnati.

Mamie "Peanut" Johnson was signed by the Indianapolis Clowns in 1953, played with the team from 1953 to 1955, had a 33-8 win-loss record and a batting average of .273.
