Alexander Ovechkin's first Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy came in 2007-08, when his 65 goals and 112 points also earned him the Art Ross Trophy for most points scored, the Hart Memorial Trophy for most valuable player, and the Lester B. Pearson Award for best player as voted on by the National Hockey League Players' Association. He is considered one of the greatest goal scorers in NHL history.

Dale Hunter spent so much time in the penalty box at the Capital Centre, the box itself was presented to him on the night his #32 jersey was raised to the MCI Center rafters in 2000.
When Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang went to hit Caps forward Jay Beagle, his stick came up underneath Beagle's visor and got wedged between his visor and helmet. Beagle was unable to extricate it on his own. "I just couldn't believe that it was stuck," Beagle told reporters. "I tried to pull it a couple times just so I could continue with the play, but it wouldn't come out."
