Bobby finds himself in a pinch after lying to his friends about knowing New York Jets QB Joe Namath. When his friends spread the word throughout the entire school before he can fess up, various family members try to help Bobby figure out a way to arrange a meeting with Namath, but Cindy takes it to an extreme when she writes Namath a letter saying Bobby has a terminal illness.

She is punished for ignoring her chores and staying up past bedtime as she prepares her entry, but all is forgiven when Mike is presented with the "Father of the Year" plaque and informed of how he won.
