In a blow-out loss to San Francisco, 49ers wide receiver Terrell Owens caused an uproar by celebrating a touchdown on the large Cowboys star at midfield in Texas Stadium. Emmitt Smith retaliated with a famous "Defend the Star" kneel down celebration of his own on the star. When Owens scored again and raced to midfield for another celebration, safety George Teague knocked Owens off the star and a short brawl ensued. Ironically, Owens would become a Cowboy later on in his career.
On January 2, 1994, in perhaps his most memorable game as a professional, Emmitt Smith suffered a 2nd degree separated shoulder in the regular season finale versus the NFC East division rival, New York Giants. In spite of the excruciating pain, Emmitt rushed for 168 yards and had ten catches, almost singlehandedly willing the 'Boys to an overtime win. The New York Times would later refer to it as "The Day That Emmitt Smith Beat the Giants With One Arm".
On September 19, 2005, Aikman, Irvin, and Smith were all three inducted into the Ring of Honor together.
His first two seasons, Randy White backed up Cowboys legend Lee Roy Jordan at middle linebacker, playing mostly on special teams.
From November 1979 through January 1980, Ed "Too Tall" Jones won the six bouts as a heavyweight, recording five knockouts.
Fullback Walt Garrison played the 1970 NFC Championship Game with a broken collarbone, contributing 122 total yards and a touchdown catch in the Cowboys' win.
Ed "Too Tall" Jones was the best in NFL history at batting away passes at the line. In fact, his success batting down passes convinced the NFL to keep track of it as an official stat.
