On October 27, 2002, Emmitt Smith broke Walter Payton's NFL record for career rushing yards. Payton had retired with 16,726 rushing yards. Smith finished his 15-year career with an amazing 18,355 rushing yards! He also compiled 164 touchdowns, another NFL record.

Angry over a business deal, Marshall opposed any franchise for Murchison in Dallas. At the time, NFL expansion needed unanimous approval from team owners, so Marshall's position prevented Murchison from joining the league. Murchison shrewdly purchased the rights to the Redskins fight song "Hail to the Redskins" and refused to let Marshall play it during games. He then offered to give Marshall the rights in exchange for his vote.

As he was carted off the field on a stretcher, Philadelphia's infamous fans cheered. Irvin later told talk show host Jim Rome that he accepted Eagles fans cheering his injury because he'd been "killing them for 10 years".
